KFC Big Crunch ripoff

Is ti just me or has the SIZE of the sandwich drop dreastically over the years. I remember when they use a baig kaiser bun and the chicken was 1 1/2 inch thick and spilling over the sides. Now they use a bun similar to what they used for the Classic sandwich and the chicken is only 1/2 inch thick and it only fills up 3/4 of the bun. When it's wrapped, the old sandwich was easily more than twice as big. Not to mention the batter is all messed up.

How was a hot, deep fried piece of greasy reconstituted chicken meat (?) dropped on a bed of wilted brownish lettuce topped with dollop Miracle Whip look alike white stuff and all that then slapped on a dried out bird seed covered bun wrapped in tissue paper, not a rip off?
Just asking :)

Original Big Crunch sandwiches were good. They've become smaller - not really worth the $6-7 price tag of the combo anymore.

Everything at KFC has gotten smaller.

I had a coupon so I went and got a 4-piece dinner; when I opened it, I couldn't believe how much the chicken has shrunk over the years. I swear, you'd think they are serving pigeon now.

With all the fat, monosodium glutamate and other chemicals in there, you'd at least expect it to taste amazing - but it doesn't. It was really quite bland, and I am almost certain they changed the famous 11 herbs and spices recipe too.

The fries were bad too (how do you screw up fries?), and they'd probably taste better (and be cheaper) if they just used real potatoes instead of those frozen, factory-shaped sticks like everyone else.

If you liked the original Big Crunch, try Popeye's instead. It's much, much better on all counts (chicken, batter, bun, and topping).

The macaroni salad was still good (in a gross, junk-food way); I wonder how long before they mess that up.

If you've ever had a big crunch, you'd know they're nothing like that.

I've ordered the big crunch from famous players for years now, and they've stayed pretty much the same size, maybe a 10% drop in size over the years, but pretty consistant.

Most KFC locations use up stock very quick, and have fresh lettuce and buns due to this. Hell, half the time I go to KFC they're out of something or another, as they're so busy.

I've never had lettuce or buns not be fresh from them for the above reason.

I rarely ever eat at fast food joints, but this is one I like...the big crunch. Last time I had one, which admittedly was probably a few months ago, it was just as good as ever. Have a coupon as well and will likely use it this week.

I'm w/ Coach on this one: if I wanted (good) fried chicken, I'd make my own at home.

I know KFC gets criticized a lot but at least it's now trans-fat free. Still unhealthy, but you don't have to feel as much guilt now.

I didn't take it personally, I was just defending them for actually keeping semi high standards compared to some other restaurants.

Isn't it $2.69 now or something? So you mean $3.00 with tax? It's still a decent deal, add a drink to it for $1.29 more and it's still under $4.00 so you still will only pay half tax.

I havent noticed it on this sandwich in particular. Still love them.

But I have noticed that all of the Wendy's $3.99 value combos sandwiches have drastically shrunk in the past year or so. I dont think I'll be supporting Wendys much in the future. I dont appreciate the deceptiveness of unannounced product downsizing at the same prices.

This isn't limited to fast food. Chip and chocolate bar makers lower the grams on their products almost every year, and keep the same price. Once the bag of chips gets too small in grams, a new Super Size is introduced at a higher price, while the old bag eventually gets phased out. Take a look at a Ruffle bag, which used to be 240g 15 years ago, then went all the way down to 170g. That's when the new 'super' bags of 300g were introduced. Fast forward to today, I have a Ruffle bag next to me, and it has 260g! :|

Most people have incredibly short memory, and don't notice small changes.

Mmmmmnnnnnn ... big crunch combo.

Back in the day, I used to order these sandwiches with "extra sauce".

Holy cow, was I crazy then. Tasted great though.

Oh yeah, I totally remember when the chicken patty was very thick and spilled over the sides of the kaiser bun. There were times when all you got was a big mouthful of battered chicken ... man, good times.

He .... looka lika MAN!
I tell you every ting!

I know. But there is a difference. When they downsize a bag of chips, they still state the weight on the package, even if its less chips/weight in the same size bag (so people rarely notice or bother to check). But its at least there in plain sight.
Burgers do not usually state their weight anywhere on the menu board or wrapper, so we cant know for sure. They could make the patties 50% smaller tomorrow and we wouldnt have any way of knowing until after we paid for it and drive away (and would then have to weigh it ourselves to be sure).
Thats what pisses me off.

I also noticed that the big crunch has gotten smaller. Mostly I would order the 4 piece dinner using a coupon and would always get a leg, a back, a wing and a breast. Then sometimes I started getting no white meat anymore, just 2 legs and 2 backs. I couldn't complain since it said on the coupon that there may be an extra charge for white meat. Then they started never giving me white meat anymore, and the last time went so far as to give me pieces of chicken that were cooked way too long and were burnt and dried out. The fries were also old and dried out. It was totally inedible. I threw it all out and haven't gotten KFC since, and don't plan on it ever again.
